How to reset Vista password

To fix this password problem our support staff performed a few workarounds.

1.       Boot from the Vista Operating System CD installation CD

2.       On Install screen select     Next button

3.       Once Windows sees there is an OS already installed

4.       Then select Repair your computer

5.       Select the Command prompt (Should be C:\ drive for most systems)

6.       Type copy c:\windows\system32\utilman.exe c:\

7.       Type Enter

8.       Type copy c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe c:\windows\system32\utilman.exe

9.       Type Enter then type YES

10.   Remove your Windows Vista OS CD and restart the PC

11.   Then Vista will display the user accounts on screen. Click the Accessibility icon bottom left corner. The command prompt appears and then you can use the net user command etc.

12.   We used net user myuser newpassword command to change to a new password (replace myuser with your username and newpassword with the password you want).

13. Close command prompt then login with new password.

Another option is to use the below method to access the computer's default  Administrator account. This account is usually hidden/deactivated so we'll go ahead and activate it.

1. Logon to Vista any account or use the above method to open cmd prompt

2. Open the cmd prompt

3. Net user administrator p@ssw0rD

4. Net user administrator /active:yes

5. Log off

6. Logon as Administrator: Password p@ssw0rD

7. Then check your account in the Control Panel – User accounts and change your password and make a password recovery CD immediately
